Afghanistan adalah salah satu wilayah konflik di Timur Tengah. Pemukim wilayah ini merupakan orang-orang yang akrab dengan rasa sakit, penderitaan, dan rasa kehilangan. Melalui novel Cinta yang Membawaku pulang Agung F. Aziz bertutur tentang kisah seorang perempuan Afghan dari suku Pashtun bernama Shabana yang kehilangan ibu, ayah, adik, suami, dan putranya akibat perang. Ibu Shabana meninggal di kamp pengungsian karena sakit. Ia terpisah dengan ayah dan adiknya selama dua puluh tahun. Tidak habis sampai di situ getir yang dicecap Shabana, sebab ia juga kehilangan suami beserta putra semata wayangnya.

Enam tahun berselang dari konflik berdarah yang memporak-porandakan kehidupannya, tersiar kabar bahwa ayahnya masih hidup. Konon sang ayah pernah terlihat di Mekah. Terdorong oleh kabar ini, Shabana bertekad mencari ayahnya. Ia menjual tanahnya di Afghanistan dan berangkat ke Saudi Arabia.

Banyak hal terjadi selama masa pencariannya. Shabana berhaji dan bertemu dengan orang-orang tak terduga; adiknya, suaminya, dan putranya. Kala bertemu adiknya, Shabana tidak serta merta dapat mengenali adiknya. Mereka telah terpisah dalam tempo waktu yang sangat lama, hingga garis-garis wajah yang telah terbentuk usia memudarkan ingatan. Baru pada pertemuan ketigalah Shabana menyadari bahwa maryam adalah adiknya.

Pertemuan kembali antara Shabana dan keluarganya menjadi bagian yang sangat dramatis. Faisullah, suaminya yang hilang kini telah bermukin di tanah arabia. Akan tetapi ia mendapati hal yang barangkali akan menggigit setiap perasaan perempuan, yakni kenyataan bahwa Faisullah kini telah memiliki perempuan yang bersanding dengannya sebagai istri. Pil pahit kembali digelondorkan ke dalam tenggorokannya ketika ia diceraikan suaminya lantaran kini mereka berbeda kewarganegaraan.

Shabana menyadari, kendati berhasil menemui keluarganya kembali, kehidupannya yang terenggut oleh perang tak akan pernah kembali.


 

LOVE BROUGHT ME HOME SYNOPSIS

 

Afghanistan was one of the conflict areas in Middle East. These region inhabitants were familiar with the pain, miseries, and loss. Through Agung F. Azis novel ‘Love Brought Me Home’, the story of Shabana, an Afghan woman from Pashtun tribe losing her mother, father, sister, husband, and son in case of war was revealed. Shabana’s mother died in refugees’ camp due to sickness. She had separated from her father sister for twenty years. The bitterness of her life lingered more since she lost her husband and her only child.

Six years from the destructive bloody conflicts toward her life, she ascertained hearsay that her father was still alive. The rumor said he had been in Mecca. Therefore, she desired to find out her father. She sold land in Afghanistan to get to Saudi Arabian.

Many things occurred along her quest. Shabana undertook hajj and surprisingly met some people she never knew she would see; her sister, husband, and son. When she saw her sister she did not recognize her in an instant. They were separated for quite long time wherefore the face lines urged by the ages blurred the memories. Just at the third meeting, Shabana realized that Maryam was her sister.

Shabana and her family reuniting was the most dramatic part. Faisullah, her husband that had gone, at the moment he lived in Arabian land. Conversely, she found out the most hurtful thing every woman would suffer. The fact was Faisullah already had a woman standing next to him, his wife. Bitter taste she had to swallow through her throat in which her husband divorced her for their different nationality.

She was aware of her life the war had wrenched would never ever be the same again, even though she had her family back.
